Semi Final Match Report

28 Aug 2017 by Sean McGuire

Masters (Joey)

Our season has finally come to an end. We went to Carrum to play a semi-final with a lot of confidence and some pretty good form. Despite the very early start the mood and attitude in the rooms before the game was really positive and up beat, I thought we’d be in for a good day.

It turned out to be anything but, we faced an equally motivated side who jumped us early. It really took us a quarter and a half for us to get going. And get going we did, with a fine cameo from Dean Wall who kicked 3 goals in a row to see us in front with a minute to play in the first half. Though we coughed up a goal with seconds to go which saw us 2 points down at half time, I thought, game on.

To say the second half was a disappointment is an understatement. To not score a goal in the second half really is a terrible way to finish the season. We had very few winners on the and that includes the coaches box. I didn’t expect so many flat performances from so many, especially myself. I went to defensive too early and changed the dynamic of our on ballers which took away a great strength. So with that, I took away any real chance winning. I went away from what we’ve done all year, backing the boys to respond and attack and put us on the back foot. I will learn from that and make sure I get better at handling the responsibility.

I would like to thank all the players who pulled on a Masters jumper this year and believing in the message and style of play we tried this year. I got a great thrill out of this year thanks to you. There are many people to thank so I might wait till presentation night for that but I will thank the players. Not only the boys who played Masters but every player who played at the club this year. I’ve enjoyed some great support and encouragement from many of you.

It’s because of you I coached this year so thank you all. Let’s hope and plan for a better year next year, Go Sainters.

The Bayside Committee, members, family & friends congratulate all players who represented the club in 2017 with pride. Well done lads, onward to bigger and better things in 2018.

Quote to ponder:

As stated by Toni Sorenson

“That last page turned is a perfect excuse to write a whole new book.”
