Match Reports v Mordy

Bayside Sainters,

The Match reports are in:

Legends (Stevo)
Another hard fought win by the legends today were we had to work extremely hard against a
Mordialloc side who gave us a run for our money.

We started off in the first quarter with a couple of goals and managed to keep that margin
for the rest of the game.

With some tougher games coming up we will have to play a lot better football.

Having said that we had some great
performances today from Disco and Billy D in the backline, Keano through the middle and it was great to see Wardy back with a couple of goals.

New/old players Bill and Tails also contributed to the win in their first games.

We all wish Midas a speedy recovery from the nasty injury he received on the weekend.

Masters (Joey)
Rnd 5 saw us travel to Mordialloc to take on a team vying for a spot in the top 4. So sitting in 4th place at 2&2 we said our season started with this game and we wanted to turn at the half way mark of the season in front in the win column. Our previous 2 games had seen us steadily improving so we set about to take it to another level.

The response we got was an astonishing game of team football. We didn’t carry one player. As always our first quarter was the catalyst with a dominant display out of the centre and many inside forward 50 entries. This continued through out the day and the willingness of players to not only get involved but to share the footy was over whelming to an opposition who had no answers.

At half time we spoke of more of the same and i cheekily asked the boys to put on a show. What a performance they produced. Our team work went to another level again where our numbers around the ball, our ball movement and talk was outstanding. Our backline, being our one great strength so far this season, not only smothered the opposition but launched many attacks which devastated Mordy. So with us really working hard and our ball use being so effective we began to supply our forwards the we should. The result of this was a highly efficient front 3rd. Marks inside 50 are like gold and we struck it rich, the small forwards fed off the crumbs like a flock of hungry seagulls and the pressure to retain in our forward line was very good.

So we turn at half way with our noses in front with a great opportunity to steadily climb the ladder and really take this competition on. It’s hard to single out players as everyone had a say in a fine performance but Big Ted, who plays like a rover but is a 6’4" ruckman, really set the tone for us. I’m so proud of how we go about our footy at the moment, it’s great to be a part of and even greater to watch. Well done boys a fantastic effort.

Supers (Flash)
The feeling again to start the game was positive. To date we have done a lot right without the results going our way – A injury here a bit of bad luck there and always fighting back after a bad start.

To the disappointment of all it was all a bit of the same again. Starting terribly, with the same old issues. 6 goals to 1 at quarter time.
We were turning the ball over with skill errors and getting caught on the spread. Trailing the opposition to the ball.
From a statistical point of view we actually got our hands on the ball enough and even had similar entries into the forward line.
Skill errors, being under pressure, lack of teamwork and constructive talk just kill us constantly…

Essentially we need to be better at working together as a team to be able to move forward.
Too many people are either are trying to do to much or just being plain selfish…We need to start asking ourselves why and start trusting and believing in our teammates.
We need to get past this ASAP to move forward.

In saying all that there were some solid performances and it was good to have Dogga in for his first game for the club – Showed plenty and will be better for the run.

Better Players – Benny K, Mark, Golden, Dan, Troy, Matty

Goals – 1 Matty, Teels, Bully

Score – Mordialloc 13.5-83
Bayside 3.4-22
