Match Reports v Carrum/Parkdale

Match Report Time:
Legends: (Stevo)
A really hard fought win by the legends team today, we came across a Parkdale side that was determined to give us a run for our money.
In a very even first half, the scores swap
between both teams with Parkdale just in
front at half time.
The second half was one of the best halves of
football I have seen at Bayside. With the injury curse hitting our forward line, it was our backline players who played out of their skins and did not let Parkdale score for the entire second half.
Led by Bourkey and Robbo who played their best games of the season, it was the entire backline who deserves all the credit for our win on the weekend. It was a mighty effort.
Thanks to Midas and Dos for helping out Parkdale and who by the way were definitely in their best players.
Bayside’s best for the day were Robbo, Bourkey, Billy D and Tim
Masters: (Joey)
Round 4 at home was set up with a good win by the Legends to kick start our day. Well done boys.
The Masters hosted the Carrum Cowboys and I must say i was a little anxious about what lay ahead with the recent history between our clubs. So the challenge for the boys was set and our theme for the day put in place, ( 22 players playing together to capacity will win ).
This proved to be true. With our 1st quarters this year so far being our best we started against the wind and hit the ground running and more importantly hitting the score board. Our willingness to share the ball and play as a team went to another level. The small things like talk, shepherding and run was great to see. The best part is we can still be better in those departments.
Our defence grows stronger and more resilient each game and has become a real headache for opposition with intercept marking and score involvements. Fantastic to watch.
Our midfield and on ball brigade not only provide support to our defence but give great drive forward and supply to the forward line. There is still a concern about the delivery to our key forwards and players being able to crumb in the forward line and taking set shots needs work. That may seem harsh having 22 shots at goal but our goal ratio is less than 50%, that has to get better.
We welcomed back 2 players for their first games of the season in Horny and SS who made significant contributions. Also we welcomed 2 players for their first games for the club in Dave, who had an influence and Flash, who probably hates us as he took a few for the team so to speak.
I am really happy that our season is now back on an even keel with an opportunity to turn at the half way mark of the season in front of the ledger. Again there is still improvement in us and that is exciting. Well done boys I’m very proud of the way we conducted ourselves and the way we play footy, it’s great to watch.
Supers: (Flash)
On Sunday we were at home to Carrum and optimist about our chances.
We welcomed Greg into the Supers after good form in the Masters. And appreciated Jeb for backing up.
The feeling in the rooms before the game was quite positive and felt like we were up for the game.
Unfortunately it didn’t take long to realise this wasn’t the case.
There was a focus on each player being accountable and this was in fact were we left ourselves down.
In the first half we were beaten out of the middle and stoppages and trailed our opponents across the ground.
Weather we were either to slow to react, not prepared mentally, or just to slack I’m not 100% sure. But the first half of football was as bad as we have played this year. The commitment just didn’t seem to be there.
At half time we were 4/5 goal behind.
If it wasn’t for some excellent performances in defense from Kirky, Golden and BP, it could have been worse.
The challenge was put to the team to come out, redeem ourselves in the second half and show a bit of pride. A few positional change were also made. And to the credit of the team we turned it around in the second half.
We started to win the ball around the middle with Bus, Benny K, Troy and Teels starting to win and to share the ball and delivered well to the forwards. Jesse lit up forward and Trav provided great support. By 3 quarter time we were level.
We pushed hard into the wind in the last quarter continuing the momentum we had gained and managed to hit the lead. And if it wasn’t for a lucky kick off the ground in the goal square by a Carrum forward we might have hung on..
Disappointingly we ended up going down by 2 points…
Looking forward we need to be able to put our head over the ball consistently, share the ball with quick hands and give first options. Be able to be accountable for your direct opponent when they have the ball and stick the tackles and tackle with your whole body, not just your arms. This game was lost due to a lack of application and accountability in the first half…
I think we are all over trying to take positives out of games….Its time to put 4 quarter together and just get the job done!
Final Score Carrum 7.7 – 49
Bayside 7.5 – 47
Better player for the 4 quarters – Kirky, Jessy, Teels, Bus, Golden, BP.
